NeFX 2009

The First Annual ACM Northeast Digital Forensics Exchange

July 20-21, 2009 @ John Jay College of Criminal Justice/CUNY

Grants to Attend for Law Enforcement

Funding provided by grants from Stroz Friedberg, LLC and the National Science Foundation

Grants to Attend NeFX2009 are available for criminal justice personnel

If you wish to attend NeFX2009, we ask that you first seek funding to do so from your agency. However, if your agency is unable to provide funding, a limited number of Grants to Attend NeFX2009 are available. These grants will cover fee waivers and/or hotel accommodations. Except for Monday breakfast, all meals for the two days of the conference are provided. Funds for travel are not available.

What sort of criminal justice professional should apply for a Grant to Attend?

We seek the participation of prosecutors, investigators and analysts whose work entails frequent involvement with digital forensics, who have a strong curiosity about the field and who will share some problem cases they have worked on that posed interesting or difficult digital forensic challenges. NeFX2009 will have round table sessions where you can share your experience and ideas about digital forensics with other participants. By sharing your ideas, you may be able to shape a research agenda to resolve issues or develop new tools or just learn something new from someone else.

How will Grants to Attend be awarded?

Because resources for Grants to Attend are limited, recipients will be selected based on the following criteria (in rough order of priority) from those who submit an application :

    • Full-time position with a criminal justice agency
    • Extent of professional involvement in digital forensics
    • Willingness to share problems encountered in cases with collection or analysis of digital evidence
    • Match of Grant to Attend by agency support (for either the fee or hotel accommodation)
    • Attendance at both days of NeFX2009
    • Diversity by geography and position
    • Date of application

    How to apply?

Submit the one-page application that asks you to briefly provide the following:

    • Your current involvement and background in digital forensics
    • A problem case involving digital forensics which you can discuss at NeFX2009,
    • The main problems in digital forensics that concern and interest you.
